This one is is white leather and in great shape. The chin strap's buttons are pebbled gold and rhomboid shaped sweat diamond appears more Reich era (brittle) than plastic. I'm curious if the chin strap (looks more of the American style than German but then I'm used to Third Reich caps) represents an officer or just a beat cop. Also of interest is what police force the badge represents.

Rick,
Nice cap. These faux leather white topped caps were normally worn by traffic police. Time frame for this cloth type of chin strap would seem to be from the 70s. The makers mark on the sweat shield would be from the same time period.
Hard to define definite time periods for these caps unless one has concentrated on a specific state for some time. With the police forces being controlled by the individual states there was a wide variety of uniforms and insignia worn over time. Rank charts rarely include the chin strap that goes with a certain rank group, but in the main, a silver chinstrap would be for a senior NCO. The chin strap buttons match the colour of the star on the cap badge so the button colour probably has no significance.
The key on the cap badge should indicate the state of Bremen. Here is a picture of the state crest on a button, from another thread running currently, for reference. The police arm badge, worn on the left sleeve, bore the entire state crest for at least some time period.
Regards,
