    Cap Insignia ??

These came in a collection I recently bought. I think the tank insignia is very nice. Is it for a beret? I don't know what the small insignia is ? Kirby

Kirby - The small badge is the branch insignia of the Heer Anti-Armor Troops (Panzerjaeger).

This American style insignia was briefly worn by Bundeswehr soldiers during the period 1955-1956 on the lapels of the Class A Uniform (aka the Monkey Suit or Affenjacke) and on the collar points of the fatigue uniform. It was replaced on the dress uniform with more traditional collar litzen backed by the branch color.

The below table from Guido Rosignoli's book, Army Badges and Insignia Since 1945 illustrates all of the short-lived branch insignia.

These badges show up on German eBay frequently, but are somewhat scarce in the U.S.

The large badge on the left is the insignia for the Heer billed dress hat which I think has fallen out of use. The insignia on the right is worn on a black beret by the members of the Panzer Corps.

      All the best - TJ

          Hi TJ,

these are not all collar badges in Post 3, because 3 are mirror reflected (Armour, Chemical and Medical), see e.g. the Panzer badges in Post 4 .

A Bundeswehr collector must have all of them.

            Did you ever wear these?

              No!

in this period I had my bad time at school!

Here is the complete set (Musterkarte):

              atlg = altgold = bronze-coloured

                  Great collection! Thanks for sharing.

To my knowledge, this aspect of the early Bundeswehr uniform had not been discussed yet.

As always, its good to get some solid references on line and nothing beats a high quality photo.

                  Thanks - TJ

Thanks for your picture of the Musterkarte. Nice to see the pairs illustrated together.
