        Hi,

an award from 1927 is a "Deutsches Turn- und Sportabzeichen" (DRA), in Bronze (born 1909).

The "Deutsches Sportabzeichen" in Gold from 1949 must be the DSA sports badge, issued first in 1948, latest in 1951/1952:

        http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=187885

His mother lived in Essen in North Rhine-Wesphalia, and that is correct for the DSA sports badge (Post 9).

It was, for the Bundeswehr, not an official award, you could not wear it on the uniform or a ribbon bar.
On a ribbon bar he could wear (only theoritical) the Bronze badge from 1927, but I never saw a ribbon bar with a DSA mini.

JeremyJ - I too would like to thank you for posting your exceptional Wehrpas.

I have a copy of Reinhard Teuber's book, "Die Bundeswehr 1955-1995". It is packed with early order of battle information to include the names of unit commanders.

If you would like to borrow it for a spell to conduct research on the units included in your Wehrpas, please send me a PM.

Again, thanks for taking the time to share your treasured find with us.

              All the best - TJ

Here is another Bundeswaffe Wehrpas to add to the mix.

I posted the units above previously but will post here again for continuity.

Wehrpas is to Karl Heinz Lau an Ehrenpokal recipient in WW2

                  Enjoy

The latter award pages are similar to Mike's Wehrpas where the awards are shown as confirmed by the Wehrpas from WW2, including the page number, and/or the documents that were used to confirm dates.

                        Cheers
