A couple of new Marine tallies arrived today.

Could someone please tell me what "MFG" stands for?

    Thanks - TJ

MFG stands for Marinefliegergeschwader (Naval Air Wing).

          "Genau (Exactly!)"

          No!

          Germany: Black Red Gold
          Belgium: Black Yellow Red

Furthermore it could never be Belgium, it is the sequence, here is red in the middle.

Please remember, in Heraldics, gold and yellow is the same. same as silver and white.
Like the National flag of east frisia. white eagle on white background.

Deutsche Marine never. For a start it is spelled wrong.
Lets find them somewhere. I got the new Tallies some weeks ago and was told thet they use them since 2 years. Bundesmarine is out of wear now they use "DEUTSCHE MARINE".

"On the street", as you say, is a different matter. Here in the US we refer to them as the Navy, Air Force, Marines, Army, or Coast Guard. However, it does not change the fact that their official names include the geographic. It's a standard wordwide practice.
Except for the "Royal Navy" and "Royal Air Force", it is of course the "British army" due to the way it was formed by ad hoc regiments not directly raised by the crown.
