    Bundesgrenzschutz Kar98k ammo pouch?

Can anyone ID the ammo pouch located at the top of the photo?

The leather is of very high quality, leading me to believe it early West German,
    perhaps BGS, BW, or Landespolizei.

There is no provision for the attachment of Y straps; the only marking is a string of numbers, "8 63 89".

    Thanks for the help!

Hi, I am sure that you are on the right track thinking that the pouch is Bundes.

      Cheers, Ade.

Thanks Ade. I've braced myself for the possibility of Swiss or Austrian as well...

Does anyone have any more information on the brown k98 pouches above? I just picked up a set. Early East German perhaps, when used and by whom? Thanks

            sammlermws,

I do not know what country used the brown pouches but they are not East German. The East Germans used the standard Mosin Nagant Soviet pouches.

            Regards,

            Gordon

Gents - I can confirm with historic images (in color) that the brown ammo pouches are East German made for the Kampfgruppen. I'll make some scans tomorrow night.

The black Kar 98k pouch was later determined to be a Wachbataillon item that had a very short service life.

                All the best - TJ

Thats what I thought about the pouches being DDR. The pair I have are marked as such inside but then blacked out for some reason. I was watching two items on ebay.de recentlly, a belt and y-strap just as in your photo, but they went for a bit more than I was willing to spend.
Thanks for posting the photo, very nice set!
Also, did regular NVA also use the brown E-tool cover like in your photo or just black?

                    sammlermws,

What were the markings that were blacked out? It would be interesting to know. Especially if you can post pictures of them. Providing of couarse that they would be ligible in a photo. If you can not post pictures you can email them to me and I will post them for you.

                    Regards,

                    Gordon
