Does/did the West (and Current) German armed forces have an equivalent to the pre-46 DRL/DRA sports badge? If so what are they referred to as? I know the NVA issued two different ones and I'd like to get the Western equivalent to round out my sport badge collection.

Hi Eric,
there is the German sports badge, issued by the German sports federation. The Armed forces have their own "Leistungsabzeichen" (proficiency badge) what includes sports, shooting, marching, first aid.
The sports badge is only worn as miniature on the ribbon bar and the proficiency badge has the place at the breast pochet like the EK 1

Here is a ribbon bar with the sports badge at the 4th position and a lifeguard badge at the 5th position. Both are worn on a ribbon in the olympic colors. -
