Candid color photo, late 50s?

Hello Dear Friends,

I hope all of the many friends I've made over the past 13 years here on the forum are faring well during this time of global crisis. This is especially true of my colleagues in Spain and Italy. God Bless you and your loved ones!

Attached please find a candid photo of a somewhat rotund Gefreiter, who appears to be a Panzermann. Although not the clearest of pictures, I delighted in seeing the color details, especially of his shoes and socks....I know, what does this say of me as a normal human being?

In any event dear friends, I look forward to reading your comments. I'd be very grateful as well for a translation of the caption.

Glad to hear that you are well and posting pictures! I can not see the photo well enough to see the panzer association. You probably deduced that by the collar tabs? As for shoes and socks? When I was in the Canadian Air Force I wore different types of shoes and not always military issue. As long as they were black no one said anything to me. Can't translate the German for you but the photos is dated 1962 and his name appears to be Detlev?

In 1962 in Boostedt was stationed the Panzerbataillon 183.

And yes, I think, that the color is "Panzer" rosa.

Great to hear from you both. Thanks for the fantastic information. As Uwe deduced, the Panzer Korps affiliation came from the collar tab color which doesn't show well here.

I can't believe I missed the date, too much focus on the shoes and socks I guess...

Now I have the name and probable unit designation of young Detlef who wants his aunt and uncle to think of their nephew. Great stuff!

Hi guys!
Boostedt was my first thought too, but the entrance of the buildings in the "Rantzau-Kaserne" (build 1958) looks different. I served there in PzBtl 183 from 1996 - 1999 (Hauptmann at least).

Sorry, that can´t be the same man. The photo on eBay is IMO older and shows a Hauptmann (WWII veteran).
