    Bundesgrezschutz helmets

    Hello all!

I don't know if this has been posted before but i found a great photo showing all (?) variations of the Bundesgrenzschutz Helmets.

I aim to add such an item to my collection as they are in a way the "last" real german Helmet versions of the distinctive design.

This image comes from the very informative and well designed website :

    www.stahlhelmsammlung.de

Is there any other source dedicated specifically on Bundesgrezschutzhelmets on the web?

    Best regards
    Dinos

        Hi Dinos,

thanks a lot for your compliment! Yes, this is my website. The picture shows not all models. One M40 (ex WH) with the first liner system, a M53 and the GSG9 helmet is not on this picture. If I can help you with informations, let me know.

        Kind regards
        Basti

          A very nice collection!

I've still not figured out about which models of helmets were used by BGS and their start dates. Smooth, rough, holes, no holes... I'm pretty confused

smooth is Polizei, although some repainted BGS helmets have less texture.

1951-53 is WW2 shells with the US "Riddell" styl suspension and rivets. 1953 start to introduce the familiar leather liner with attachment in dome. Many of the WW2 shells were adapted for it and the rivet holes welded closed. Then the postwar shell production restarted with vents (and of course no rivet holes). Can identify postwar produced shells by markings and often thicker vents and also all are "M40" style (stamped vents, rolled rims), so M42 with dome attached liner is always reworked WW2. Ventless shells came around 1961, if i remember correctly.

Also sometime after in mid-late 60s, there is some slight changes to the 1953 liners. Most were refurbished, so the original type from late 50s is harder to find.

              Regards
              Klaus

Hi Basti (thanks for the pm i have replied!)
Regarding the early BGS and Police Helmets i noticed by seeing lots and lots of Photos that there was a constant change in the liners and the helmets used. even the chinstraps where all kinds of sorts. So i think it will be difficult to make a date list of all the different variations.

                    Best regards
                    Dinos

My BGS/Polizei Helmet that arrived today! 1st of April! (but no joke!)

Here are photos of my just arrived BGS/POLIZEI (still in doubt although ogpsycho said it is Polizei). I like it eitherway!

The color has a bit raw texture being rather a dark green.
                      It is an LS 64.

                      What do you think?

I'm suspicious of a repainting of the outside. Hard to tell, though. Also, do you think the left side shows signs of a decal being removed? Just wondering if this helmet was subjected to the indignity of serving as a faked WW2 helmet at some point.

Ahhh :-) You got it! Please make some "daylight-pictures". I am not shure about the color?!

Thank you Steve for your input!
It doesnt seem to be scratched off and it has no "shape remnands" of a decal it aslo is very difficult to photograph in or outside so to be exact with the color it acually is.

I also post some outdoor photos and 2 close ups maybe they help define Police or BGS.

                              Hello Basti!

Here are the outdoor photos and two close ups of the surface.
                              Wonder if it helps?
