For many years I've had questions about the different variations of arm rank worn by enlisted BW soldiers over the years. I finally decided to post some pictures of the different types I have and find out what they are!
What I am interested to know is when each of these types of ranks were in use, the branch that used them, and any other information that can help collectors know exactly what jacket they should be used for (or not!). All examples pictured are unissued.
First is Dienstabzeichen designed for the dress uniform jackets. D1, D2, and D4 are on a stiff material, D3 and D5 are on wool. D1 is on tan material, D2 light gray, D3 dark blue, D4 blue gray, D5 medium gray.
Second is Dienstabzeichen designed for field uniform jackets after 1962. All are on stiffened Moleskin cloth. The silver part of the ribbon in F4 is wider than F1-F3. The color of the center stripe for F1 and F2 is the same, F3 is much lighter, and F4 is more olive than F1 and F2.
Any and all thoughts appreciated!
