The name is written in pencil is not very noticable at all. I actually was taking pics of the liner inside at night and the pic with flash revealed the name. It was a total fluke to find it as I had already inspected the helmet and was just taking some pics to post on the forums.

Nice helmet. However, it is a standard WW2 Canadian MkII helmet. For some reason, this manufacturer always marked their helmets MkI, but it is a common helmet. As for the name written on the rim, not an unusual practice, so I am not sure what type of feedback you are looking for. Maybe I'm missing something....

All I was looking for was some help in reading the name! May be common to have helmets named to a Captain, but of the helmets I own none are named and only one has a serial number scratched in the paint.
Not everyone is looking for extraordinary input from other members, just wanted to share a helmet that I got a pleasant surprise from.
Why would a maker stamp all their helmets wrong? Not that I know any better but I don't understand why that would happen.

Sorry, I can't make out the name either. As to why General Steelwares marked all of their helmets Mk1, according to "Tin Lids" by Roger Lucy "The official Canadian designation was Helmet, Steel, Mk. II with a stores number IA8350. The bodies being designated: Body Mk. I to Helmet, Steel, Mk. II" So even though the helmet as a whole is known as the Mk II, GSW was not totally incorrect in stamping their helmet shells Mk I, although they were the only company to do so.
There's nothing wrong with you wanting to show off your helmet, I simply didn't understand exactly what you were looking for. It's all good...

Just a small question. If you put a magnet on it, does it stick to it ?

On my helmet there is no reaction.

I do appreciate the information, in fact I was going to post that question over on MCN as Roger is a member over there. Don't have to now thanks to your post.

I was having a bad night last night..car accident...insurance company..need I say more.

I should have known about the helmet being a MKII as well, as I own a MKI also. I will post it later as well, it has the Goodyear logo on the front and the theory is that it was a WWI vets helmet that went to work as a factory gaurd or firewatcher for Goodyear during WWII, hence the logo on the helmet. Well, it makes for a good story anyway.

No sir, the helmets are non-magnetic. I have several and none are magnetic.
