Grandson Seeking Replacement Medals for Grandfather

    Gentlemen:

I am hoping you guys in the UK can help a friend of mine who is trying to get replacement medals for his Grandfather who served in Somerset Light Infantry during the First World War. He states that his father had sent a request to the appropriate British government office that would handle such affairs back in the 70's, but his request was denied because his Grandfather had immigrated to the United States and was no longer entitled to replacements medals since he was no longer a British citizen. He is also is looking for any information pertaining to his Grandfather (David John Knight). Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    John<O

Sounds strange - follow this link, it should help - there's a section about claiming reissues of lost campaign medals.

Unfortunately replacement issue medals for WWI are not longer available. The medal office cut off WWI claims recently, so you will not have any luck there I'm afraid.

You may do well looking up his Medal Index Card at the National Archives, however.

        Cheers,

        Adam
