    Enfield (T) Sniper mount

I bought this mount and pads at a gunshow. Someone drilled and tapped a Longbranch Enfield and stuck them on their. They look original, but I have noticed that some jack ass is making repos of the mounting pads (I say we hang him, i'll supply the rope). I'll leave it up you guys da experts lol.

What mark of No4 was the Longbranch? If the rifle was accurate (better than average) then all makers rifles were converted to No4Ts. The only exception were the MkI* with the 2 band barrels, these were rejected no matter how well they shot.

The pads look OK but the fixing screws were normally staked to stop them moving under recoil.

Its a mark 1. but what do you mean two band barrels? it doesn't have a T on the receiver.

            Re Mounts

            hI ,

The mount itself , from what i can actually see looks to be fairly pucka,
font style of the lettering etc .

As for reproduction stuff they have been doing it for ages , pads , screws ,
mounts , folks finding singer sights and chopping the battle sight .

Some are quite good and some are very poor , most just dont get it right when compared to the actuall real thing , stupidly , most are actually too good as the originals are quite rough in places.

As for the longbranch rifle, correct type of No4 but a bit too early ,
Longbranch snipers were Mk1 * as they had already switched production
before the sniper programme came fully on stream.

The vast majority of snipers were M47C rifles, with a large batch of 1930,s
trails rifles refubished and T converted as the requirement was urgent and the No4 production lines were not up and running at that stage . Rifle converted by enfield ( some savages snuck in thier but no one is quite sure how many )

Hope that helps a bit , as for value ........getting higher and higher .........the rifles released in the 50,s were mostly split from thier mount and sold seperately. Thier are also a number of T rifles that were built but not mated with scopes and mounts. Things are a little out of balance as a result and folks want the originals to match up with these rifles . A good repro mount can strap you round the £ 200 mark .
I would not worry too much about the repro stuff , thier is enough info out thier that is either affordable ( as in books ) or freely given on forum such as this to avoid crunching yourself too badly . Even if you should go for a repro T
it will still cost you dear as the kit is not cheep and as for scope prices ...........
            say no more !
            regards
            Tim
