Over the years I have accumulated a few pieces from the 17/21 Lancers. I would love to see the variations of the cap and collar badges and would appreciate if anyone can direct me to a trustworthy dealer who may have some, from the oldest to the most modern.

the UK based dealer who i believe has a first class reputation is a guy called
GEOFF NEWMAN ,he used to work for one of the better known military auction houses until going on his own , i will let a few of the other badge collectors comment on him but i have dealt with him for years and never had a problem......... thats presuming i have not been buying repros of him for the last 10 years !!

A very interesting outfit.
They wore this death's head in memory of Ge.Wolfe,killed in action at Quebec back during the French & Indian War(Seven Years War to our European friends).
This badge is one I've tried to find in the American Revolutionary War configuration(same style as pictured)when they wore it on jockey(leather)helmets & rode cavalry horses in America,1776-82.
By all accounts they were a fine mounted unit and served their King with great distinction.A number of them were detached to Tarleton's (British)Legion during the Southern Campaigns and declined to wear the Loyalist green jackets of Tarleton's Legion;instead,continuing to wear their old (by then) threadbare red jackets & death's head helmets.They fought hard at Cowpens,S.C. but were defeated.

They were perhaps one of the most unluckiest regiments suffering a number of shipwrecks and losing their regimental histories on more than one occasion. There is a book out by a bloke called Ffrench (yes, thats two "f"s !) which gives a conscise and accurate regimental history of both regiments and their subsequent amalgamation.

It's still pronounced "french". Often this family name is spelled with two lower-cased fs (ffrench); a misunderstanding deriving from an older calligraphic method of writing a capital F. French is actually an Irish name (well, Norman -- to be precise).
