    Canadian para

    I'm looking for info about:

JJ Mare, K48819 Private RN r43-09-11.

Canadian archive found a Jacques Jean Marc with service nr k48819 so the possible names are MARE and Marc.

Most likely from the 1st Canadian Para Bat. 6 Britisch Airborne Div.

His service number indicates he originally joined with the Westminster Regiment from British Columbia.

There is no man by surname MARE or MARC listed as having received any award/decoration.

Will see if I can find you any more info.

      Cheers,

      Adam

        Hai Adam,

Its a Canadian Para for sure, his name on the list i have is spelt as JJ Marre.
There were also some Americans inlisted in the 1st CPB. And maybe this is on of them. I don`t know how far you can track them.

Oh, I am not disputing that he was a para, I am sure he was. However, his original unit was the Westminster Regiment, he likely transferred to the Paras while over in the UK. This would be pretty standard as I don't believe the Canadian para battalions had any direct recruiting measures in place, rather they took volunteers from men already serving in other regiments/units.

Marre is it? I'll have another look with this name and see if I can come up with anything. His service docs are probably available at the national archives here. It may be worth getting a researcher to have a look for you.

          Cheers,

          Adam

            Hello Adam,

And making any progress? For us its very hard to get any information from the Canadians. Im living in Holland. We got frequently visits from Canadian Paras, who fought here. Its very nice to ask them information about there WW2 time.

            Cheers Jeroen

              Hello,
According to the book "Out Of The Clouds" there is a listing of a
Pte. J.J. Mare, He received his Jump wings at RAF Station, Ringway, England on 11/09/43. I hope that is helpfull.

There's a good start, thanks to Gerry.

You won't be able to find much more info about this individual until copies of his service record are obtained from the National Archives.

                Cheers,

                Adam

Hi All, thanks for your help..

The Canadian Archive doesn't have any info about a J.J. Mare , but they do have a J.J.Marc...

Could they be wrong? Or are the lists that Jeroen have wrong ?
