    WW1 Brodie Helmet found today

I was out doing some general shopping today as I walked past the local junk/bric-a-brac shop and saw this helmet sat in the window, it was very very cheap and straight out of the woodwork, so I thought I'd take a chance and pick it up.
I will let the pictures do the talking, interestingly it has a metal loop welded to the front to attach a badge.

    Any comments welcome

Maybe it is the layers of paint, but I cannot see any stamps in the helmet shell

The small bracket on the front[?] is interesting. Perhaps intended to hold a cap badge?

I don't think I've seen the small bracket spot welded to the front of a WW-1 Brodies before. It does seem to have been crimped to enable the flat bar of a cap badge to slip in behind it. I've seen British WW-1 helmets with badges affixed to the front, but they have mostly been private purchased officers' helmets.

Any UK helmet specialists care to comment on this? It doesn't seem very likely to me that cap badges were worn on helmets into combat in this fashion. Colored cloth battalion patches were put on the helmet covers instead. This leaves the possibility of only parade or other non-combat use. I'd like to hear other opinions on this.

                  Interesting helmet,

                  Bob

Thanks for the replies. I was very chuffed to get the helmet, nicely out of the woodwork. For me the badge bracket is very interesting.
