Australian Slouch Hat - help needed

Hey folks, this slouch came with a group of Aussie stuff that I just picked up. It has no markings on it, and the sweatband appears to have lots of sweat discoloration leading me to believe it’s been well worn. It has no rising sun badge on the side. It seems to be well made. Is it military issue? How old do you all reckon it is?

To me it looks like it has never been used, never been bashed on a block. It must be from the 60's or later though it does not quite look right.

One of the Aussie companies which makes clothing is also turning out hats like this, which I've seen on sale here in Canada alongside waxed canvas 'dusters' at a local Western boot store.

I noticed the hook first, which I've seen on the modern repros but I don't know whether or not it was ever used on the issue slouches. Also, the colour looks awfully dark to me both for an issue item and for one which has been worn much in the sun. But I'm not expert on slouches, so take this for what its worth.

Hooks fine, that type of fastening has been on every hat, khaki fur felt that I had been issued from 1969 until I got out in 2005.

Leather band quality is typical of the 60's and after ! Not before ...

it appears from the pics to be a private purchase slouchie from the post 1960's on which someone has painted the vent holes red/brown to make it look as if it is WWII
