        Collar flag

Collar flag on a BD. There have been some doubts on this one but not from me (and others).

          Another 3 DSK

One more 3 DSK. Unfortunately I can only show the front as it is mounted. Notice how it is different from my granddad's in that the tree is a seperate piece on top as opposed to being "fit in" like my granddad's.

            The whole lot.

For kicks and giggles I thought I'd post the whole grouping that the above piece belongs to.

That's about all I have for now. If anyone else wants to ask a question or needs additional photos then please ask away.

            Cheers,
            Greg

Yes the BD is from the 1st Krechowiecki lancers regiment. I know it's a little hard to make out since the color of the stripe is a bit faded.

The Italian made ribbon bar is plastic the red color on the KW is clear red colored plastic so is the green the other ones are solid color. There were no unit patches in Poland pre-1939 this was adopted from the brits, the bullion insignia is of Italian manufacture. Its worth mentioning that the BD also has nice Italian made collar insignia which are also plastic.

The factory story has been mentioned but it was not a toy factory or a toothbrush factory, it was an accordion factory. The soldiers liberated the plastic there and started to make patches collar insignia cigarette cases etc. and it became very trendy among the troops of the 2nd corps. I believe that this trend started a cottage industry among the Italians or a few resourceful soldiers and some of the items were mass produced such as the 2nd Corps and the Poland titles GregK graciously shared with us.

It was also popular to make ribbon bars from toothbrushes since they came in different color plastics.

GregK nice stuff, your grandfathers 3DSK patch is very unique. I hope to see more

                  Hey guys,

My father's 3DSK patch is the same as Greg's example. It is all plastic with an overlaid plastic evergreen tree if I remember correctly. He has a bullion 2nd Armored patch and Sgt ranks which were Italian made...I remember him mentioning that a nice old Italian woman made them for him during the war. Coincidently, his 2nd Armored patch does NOT have a unit stripe on it. His collar pennons are Italian made as well. He also qualified for the 3DSK badge which he wore on the breast pocket of his BD.

                  Thanks,

                  Vic

                            Plastic ribbons

Man, that is cool !! I have my own ribbons coated in plastic for protection from grime, but I have never thought of making them from plastic. I'm a skilled tradesman in the Navy,so I'm going to have a crack at it. I might even post the results under a new thread.

                            Regards;
                            Johnsy
