    Canadian RCAMC helmet registration number

    Hello gents,

Someone can tell me someting about a Canadian military service number. It was handpainted in a MK3 Turtle helmet with RCAMC flash.

Registration number: 47170 (and a unknown handpainted marking at the beginning)

I cannot post some pics overhere. (Helmet was a real woodwork find in vgc)

    Many thanks in advance

The digit at the beginning should be a letter.
    That’s important

      Thanks a lot Roy !!

This explains the unknown sign in the beginning.
It must be the letter D
      so the service number is:

      D 47170

A 'D' prefix indicates that he was enlisted in Military District 4, which took in most of Western Quebec, exclusive of the Montreal area.

          Thanks Peter !

According the Laughton.Ca site service numbers WW2 this service number belonged to:

          Militia District 4 – Prefix D
          27th Armoured Regiment (Sherbrooke Fusiliers)

Research points out that this Regiment liberated the village in Holland which the helmet was left behind !

RoyA figured out it must be the letter G.
G47170 belongs according the listings the 14th Fieldambulance RCAMC

The town is Schalkhaar near Deventer in the eastern part of Holland near the German border.

Thanks to RoyA maybe a full research !!!!

                  Hi John,

                  Is that possible nowadays?
Got some items to, but thought if you were not related to the soldier you didn't got any info!

Actually, personal service files for WWII are generally available in their entirety only to relatives under our confidentiality rule, but some info can be requested from LAC. Here is the page with the links:

You may obtain an unredacted file if you can furnish proof of death greater than 20 years.
Otherwise certain personal information will be struck.
Typical wait time is over 12 months but a researcher can obtain the info in 4-6 weeks.
I have used Arnie Kay no less than 50 times over the years and his fee is usually $30.

Sounds like a superb helmet. Do you have a picture?

And where did you found out this specialised information?

Yes, a picture would be great! I belong to a group here in Canada who portray a CAMC unit from WWI at historical events.

Border85 - I have been researching WWI for 7-8 years now, in Canada, so I know a little bit about what resources are available here for that period and much less about what's out there for WWII and later.

                              RCAMC MK3 helmet

For those with acces to the Walhalla Forum:

                              https://www.ghw2.com/topic/59273-rca...ervice-number/

Discription is not up to date anymore because the owner of the helmet belonged to another unit as discribed before. Research is given nice results already.
