    British WW2 pilot set?

    Hello,

I've been offered an id'd WW2 British pilot (officer) set (visor cap, tunic, trousers). Set is in good shape, no holes/rips/tears nor stains. Tailors label on breast pockets flap indicates manufacture year 1943 as well as "Checked" stamp on pants. Visor has manufacturers paper(?) tag inside.

I'd like to get British pilot set into my collection but I don't know about the price range for these and I hope someone here could help so I could make a reasonable offer for it!

I can post pics if that helps!

    Cheers,
    Miikka

    Hello Mikka,

Pictures are essential. Also the identity is critical because that will have a huge bearing on its value.

      Pics & name

      Here you go.

Name on tailors tag is C.F. Budd. I'm not familiar with British rank insignia but I think stripes on sleeves indicate him as captain(?). Not many ribbon bars and there are loops above ribbons for medal bar.

Buttons are removable and bottom one is "flat". Pants are cut so that on the top of the back those go "higher".

Side view. Colour of the cap does not match exactly to the uniform, most likely due to sun.

I've few more shots so pls tell me and I'll post if needed!

I was told that this pilot was wing or squadron commander but it's hearsay...

                      Thanks,
                      Miikka

                        Mikka,
The rank is indeed Squadron Leader, and although the uniform was manufactured prior to the end of the war, the RAF Pilot brevet and the Cap badge are both Post 1953 as they exhibit the Queen's crown.
I would say that this uniform and cap is worth around $100 USD as it sits.
It also appears to me that the cap is post 1953, which would lower its value considerably. If the wing on the tunic was WWII, I would say that this uniform was worth about $200 at that exhalted rank. The cap would be worth $100 to $125 in the right circles.
                        Hope this helps.

Thank you VERY much for the information I think owner wants lot more from this set... and I don't want post war set at all! I also think that seller has not studied different crowns and that he once thought buying a WW2 RAF set...

I used to have one British artillery set and at that time I did remember different crowns... But now I'm getting old, forgetting even this basic information ... need more books!!

Are there a good uniform reference book about British uniforms with good quality photos?

                          Thanks again for your help!
