This is interesting:

Of Note: Lt. Thomas Jamieson Quirk served in the R.C.M.P. from 1932-1939 when he volunteered at the outbreak of WWII, to join the Canadian Scottish Regiment. He transferred to the 1st Paratrooper Battalion and was involved in D-day Invasion. He transferred to the Provost Corps where he commanded several military prisons within Canada. He was discharged in 1950. He gained the rank of "Major C.D (Canadian Forces Decoration)." Mr. Quirk passed away on May 5, 1999.

Interesting indeed Eric,
According to the nominal roll I searched of the 543 guys who jumped on D-Day, Quirk was NOT one of them. I checked HQ, A, B, & C Coy. If he did serve on D-Day, then it was with another unit and not the 1st Can Para.
Cheers

The quote in the Collectors' Guild came from this article...
http://www.rcmpveteransvancouver.com...amieson-quirk/
If it is correct, and he did not jump on D-Day, then he was seaborne reinforcement if attached to 1 Can Para at the time.
The only way to be certain is to obtain his service records.
PM or email me if you want info on how to pursue that.

I checked another 1st Can Para list I have which indicates an assortment of information such as if a member served in Normandy, Korea, if they parachuted or went by ship, wounded, KIA, etc.. There is no mention of Quirk serving overseas with the Battalion in any capacity. As Roy mentioned, perhaps request his service records to be certain.
Cheers.

Hi Eric
He clearly served with 1 Can Para overseas.
Ref: Out of the Clouds by John Wiles.
He is listed on page 242 as Lt Quirk, T.L., (R) 24/12/43.
He is also in the Officers Photo on page 168, Officers January 1944.
Lt Quirk was the MP to 1 Can Para. I think he was posted out of the unit about Dec 44.
About 15 years back?, one of his relatives took a lot of his WW2 kit and was going to throw it all out. (I think he was in Vancouver). A friend of the family rescued his kit and sold it all on E Bay. I picked up one of two of his Maroon Berets. I since parted with it to L Grimshaw. Louis Grimshaw in Kingston might still have it, I included the paperwork from the auction w the Beret. I did have a bit of info but can't find it. If you go to the Canadian Soldiers .com site, you will likely get more info on him. All the best. PaulLast edited by Paul Harrison; 07-04-2018, 09:13 AM.
