WWI Medals to REY Harris,Dorsets & REY Harris, Hamps / RASC, & Lodge Medal.

John,s thread on the masonic medal prompted me to get around to posting these.

The top pair are to:REY Harris of the Dorset Regt, the lower pair to REY Harris of the Hampshire Regt.
The Ceylon lodge medal is to Bro. RE Harris, I belive that its hallmarks translate as 1922.

    Medal Index Cards show:

Ralph Edward Young Harris, 1 Dorset R, Pte, 6722
    Victory Roll C/2/101 B6 Page 383
    BWM ditto
    14 Star RollC/2/5 Page 59
An X is marked next to the entry re. the star, but no further comment other than "See HARRIS R.E.V.

Sure enough there's a MIC to Harris Ralph E.V., Dorset R, Pte, 6722, with ditto's under the regiment, rank & number.
    Victory Roll C/2/101 B6 Page 383
    BWM ditto
    14 Star RollC/2/5 Page 59
An X with dots between the arms is marked next to the entry re. the Victory Medal.
First entered an unspecified theatre of war on 16/8/14.
    Disc 28-4-16 (TEX)
    Clasp & Roses IV 3722 cd?21-9-21
    Clasp 41682
Correct onitials R.E.Y. see X (with dots between the arms) (a 10b

    There's a MIC to Ralph E.Y. Harris, Hamps R, Pte 29695
    R.A.S.C. M/353246
    Ditto EMT/55675
    Victory Roll RASC/101 B193 Page 19811
    BWM ditto.

I have'nt checked up yet on some of the avenues to follow, like what does "(TEX)" mean, what's "EMT" in front of a RASC number mean etc, but to me it looks like Ralph Edward Young followed on service with 1st Dorsets with discharge & re-enlistment / conscrption into the Hampshires, followed by the RASC.
He's been issued his 1914 Star trio to the Dorsets & mistakenly issued a further BWM & Victory pair to the Hampshires (as Pte 29695).
In 1922 he's out in Ceylon, it'd be nice if something can be turned up from that angle.
It'd be nicer to find that missing 1914 Star & Bar though.

          "PRESENTED TO BRO R.E. HARRIS
Somebody could'nt resist scratching the reverse with a pin to see if the medal's made of silver.

Interesting stuff Leigh. I always find family groups to be fantastic research material. Sadly, as with yours many times there are missing medals as things have been split up among family members or simply lost over time.

Do you know if either man's service record survives?

Why was he in Ceylon, any clue?

Sorry lots more questions than answers!

            Cheers,

            Adam

Like so many other things, I have'nt got 'round to checking service records, I think that the initial "H" hadn't been reached when I checked up a few years ago.

I tend to get that sort of research done in batches - time I got some done.

I've no info on this man / these men other than the MICs, it'd be an idea to try to follow up the lodge angle I suppose, I'll check the web for suitable sites.
