    Camberwell Old Comrades Medal Opinions

    Hi All,
Can anyone tell me exactly what this award is? This is not my area of expertise
and would welcome any and all comments about its significance and approximate value. The enamelling is really well done but hard to show with my digital camera.

It looks like gold wash over silver?

Hi John, it is a Masonic lodge WW1 Veterans association medal. The silver hallmark is for 1919. Great looking item. Very hard to value as I have never seen one for sale before.

          Cheers, Ade.

I had searched our forum as well as the web and came up with nothing on this
piece. Can anyone else shed some light on this award?

It's a masonic jewel, instituted by the branch concerned after WWI for its ex servicemen members presumably.

The masons issue all kinds of these things, there are collectors of masonic jewels, 'tho the things are of no interest to me other than that this one is because of its WWI military link.

There must be masons site on the web which will answer such queries, 'tho I'm not sure that they'd have much info on such a "local" matter.

Any of the brethren going to roll down their trouser leg, put down their trowel & come out of the shadows to offer any info on this one?
(I'm doing the gesture requesting assistance here - I learned that one because I was told that it's a good one to use when you're in a tight spot in the witness box in court - if it does'nt work then the next move is to faint).

                  Hi Leigh,

Thanks for your interesting, informative and thought provoking response.
Yes they are quite a secretive bunch of chaps now aren't they?
I appreciate your assistance on this one.
I'm assuming these aren't "big ticket" items? (with regards to value).
Or are they? I don't know anyone who collects this stuff.

I think that i notoced somebody on the forum who had an expressed interest in masonic jewels.

I've no real knowledge of these organisations, other than that they appear to be making efforts in recent years not to appear secretive & shadowy.
I once went to an office in Britain that employed people to scan world wide publications for any reference to the organisation, so that they could keep up to speed on PR - what sre the chances of them picking up on this posting?
Bit silly really, blundering around in the dark discussing an organisation we know naff all about when there are no doubt people reading it who know quite a bit, but probably not about something as local as this jewel.
I've been meaning to post some WWI Brit medals with a Sri Lankan Lodge jewel from the 1920's, this threads given me an incentive to start scanning & posting.

please come forward and perhaps shed some more light on this award.
By all means, leigh, I'd love to see your Sri Lankan Lodge jewel.
I remember I purchased this award when the price of silver was getting ready to hit an all time high of $50.00 an ounce. I recall paying $30.00 for this piece. The dealer was under the impression I was buying it in order to melt it down for its silver content. He told me, please. do not melt it down! Interesting side note I thought I'd mention.

Masonic jewels have always had a clique of collectors, and a crop of such items can usually be found in several auction catalougues - notably Bosleys. They don't float my boat, but these guys are the ones to contact:
