    Researching S. African ww2 Airman

Recently I picked up a named 1939-45 medal named to "328772 H.P. Anderson".

The numbering seemed strange to me until I quickly got several hits identifying him as a member of the South African SAAF contingent that sailed to Britain September 1943 and in late October 1943, he was transferred from 243 Squadron to 43 Squadron.

He's identified as "Anderson, LT HP DFC". Im wondering if anyone maybe able to locate a DFC citation or any further information about him?

    Would be greatly appreciated!

        Thank you both!

I notice the Gazette lists the 'V' following numbers for SA gents - was this typical to identify them apart from normal UK serial numbers?

Is there any method of research to uncover additional details about a DFC award?

Appreciate the help and anything additional!

        Cheers
        Scott

Well for the DFC not normally awarded for a single action. I see that 93 was a fighter sqdrn so he might of got it after X-victories or x-sortiees with action or given the late date of the award being one of the longest serving members of the sqrd.

Bombmer command was easy survive 1 full tour and have a clean service record you had a good chance to get one.
Costal command even easier sink a submarie or alike

            Hi Steve,

Where do you come up with 93 squadron? I see the Gazette listing for 95 squadron...

            Thanks
            Scott

Hi Scott , the entry in Flight Global says 93 Sqdn . , London Gazette says 95 Sqdn.

I would think that the London Gazette entry is the correct one i.e. 95 Sqdn .

              Regards Steve.
