43rd Wessex question

Guys,
Here are several formation badges for the 43rd Wessex. My question; Is there any significance to the color variations of the Griffin's highlights? Or are these just local/theater made variations?

I read somewhere, some time, that the wyverns tongue colour varied on the original badges for a particular reason - something to do with red for one arm, blue for another, & that later ones were all yellow.
Just can't remember the details, & don't know if they're correct in the first place anyway.
There you go, my speciality - no definitive answer, just a half answer that helps muddy the waters a bit.
