    Grenadier Guards RQSM

    Folk
I'm trying to find a RQSM patch WW1 Era for the grenadier guards. My grandfather served with the regiment for 20 yaers including Mons. I can't find any insignia references for the color sgt ,COQM or RQSM. Any help would be great, Also looking for any pre war 18th Hussars items
    Thanks

Did the guards not use the standard brass RQMS's wreathed crown? They're easily available.

I pulled this off diggerhistory's site. This is what you're looking for. They're around, but, as ever, whenever you want one... they disappear. Just a case of keeping one's eyes peeled.

Is that definitely the badge worn by Guards at the time?

I've got an idea that WOs of the Guards wore a system of inverted chevrons with a crown or star above (think star was worn by TQMS), giving way to the crown, crown in wreath etc, with wartime changes to the insignia of the WO ranks.

I thought that system had been phased out by the time of the Great War. One for Marc methinks, as I'm a bit vague on this.

I stand to be corrected but:

The insignia for CSM & CQMS was a crown over 3 chevrons, retained by CQMS when CSM adopted the crown on its own in 1915.
Prior to 1915 the crown on its own had been worn by RSM, in 1915 it changed to the Royal Arms (the fighting dogs).
A star over 4 inverted chevrons was worn by RQMS until 1915 when the crown in wreath was adopted.

Think that's it, in fact I'm fairly sure that's right.

Never seen a star over chevrons, but crown in wreath are very common, if I see one I'll get it it & PM.

Got one today - cost £2.

"Problem" is, it's got those flat sheet brass fitting loops that seem to denote Canadian manufacture.
