    Info on my deceased Uncle

    Hi,

I am after any information on my Uncle and his battalion from 1943 to the end of the war.

    Name: John Edward Marles
    DOB: 30/04/1923
    Enlisted: Beverley 1943
    Comp: South Staffs 1st Battalion
    Army No: 14641215
    WIA: 23/06/1944

Released from the army in 1947.

I know he was in India and then Burma and I have been told he was involved in the "2nd Burma Campaign" and a battle at Mogaung.

He is no longer with us unfortunately, so that avenue has closed.

Any info, pointers would be gratefully appreciated.

    Thanks for looking,

    Mike

      Apologies

I meant to say "2nd Chindit Campaign" and not Burma.

All I can say is that his service number indicates that he was originally in the General Service Corps (which was formed in September 1943, block of numbers allocated 142000001 - 15000000), prior to allocation to the S. Staffs.

Get the nearest living next of kin to apply for his service records from the Army:
