It is a Miniature of the 1908~1936 version of the

          'Royal Red Cross'

          Second Class or 'Associate' award.

It it classified as an order of two levels. Memeber and Associate with the same ribbon for both.

It is unique in CW awards in that you can only recieve the Associate level once, on second award one is promoted to the Member. Holder of the first class can recieve the first again as bar to the award. It is also possiable to skip the Associate level and go right to the Member level.

Awading of the Member is limited to 2% of all elegible per year.

As a funny note the first Male award was I think in 1979 but I am sill trying to find the exact date. The charter of the wawrd was changed in new years honours in 1977 to allow males.

As for price a new one runs about 100$ not sure what a period one would go for

Thank you for the extensive info byterock!

I think it’s NOT a miniature, but a full size award!
It measures 36mm arm to arm and here is a picture compared to a more recent miniature of the award (possibly from the 50s or 60s, judging by the queen’s image)! The miniature measures 21mm arm to arm.
            Thanks again,
if someone is interested in it, please pm!

I have only ever seen members of QARANC (and therefore QAIMNS by logical extension) wearing the RRC and ARRC.
