Mark, they are reproduced but not heavily and they are really low quality and crude.

There are two examples on eBay at the moment and they are both good originals.

    Thanks, from Jack.

One went for £110 at a recent auction in Glasgow. It was a nice one fitted in to a wooden stand. Wanted it for myself but not at that price.

Just had a search of ebay and guess what....its actually one of the two discussed earlier. Ah well... as it went for £110 at auction, i wonder what his reserve will be ? Still, it is a beauty.

Hi Mark, welcome to the forum!

I know of copies being reproduced that are cast from an original. So like all items, research well before buying.

            Cheers, Ade.

              £88 for £110

Thanks for the Welcome! I've sitting on the sidelines for a while now and it seems that there's no better place to "research well before buying."

I see the framed one finally made £88...so if it was sold at auction fir £110 then the seller has taken a loss?

Again thanks to everyone for sharing their knowledge!

                Hi Mark,

The seller certainly did take a loss. Not only did he pay £110 for it but also he paid 15 % commission on top of that for the auctioneers premium. Glad it wasn,t me.
                Cheers,
                David

I have one of these but it doesn't have the world premiers verbiage after "on September 17th 1944". It is blank after the date.

                    Why is it different ?

Yo! Here's something I wrote for the ABRG ages ago:

"Hi everyone! The "Theirs is the Glory" souvenir ticket, I am told, was issued to veterans of Market-Garden for the premier of the film in Belfast on September 17th 1946. They are made from aluminium from the British gliders that crashed at Arnhem. I have two in my collection and both are different. I have only ever seen two different types and the commoner of the two reads:

                        THEIRS IS THE GLORY.

THIS SOUVENIR IS MADE OF METAL FROM ONE OF THE CRASHED GLIDERS WHICH CARRIED THE BRITISH 1st AIRBORNE DIVISION INTO BATTLE AT ARNHEM ON SEPTEMBER 17th 1944.

                        WORLD PREMIERS.
                        BRITAIN-HOLLAND-CANADA
                        SEPTEMBER 17th 1946.

                        The less common one reads:

THIS SOUVENIR IS MADE OF METAL FROM ONE OF THE CRASHED GLIDERS WHICH CARRIED THE BRITISH 1st AIRBORNE DIVISION INTO BATTLE AT ARNHEM ON SEPTEMBER 17th 1944.

This script appears on the reverse of the ticket. On the front is the symbol of the 1st Airborne Division: the mythical greek winged horse Pegasus and the warrior Bellerophon.

I find it very strange that there should be two variations in the script of the souvenir ticket and I cannot think why there should be at all! Both of the tickets I have are totally original so a possible dodgy reproduction run of these tickets cannot be argued for. Whatever version of the ticket you have in your collection doesn't matter I think because either way it is a nice collectable piece.

A final word: these tickets are now reproduced so beware!!! The reproductions are much more shiny and bright than the originals plus the quality and sharpness of the detail and writing is not as good.

I hope I have been of some help and not raised anything controversial."

That was a nice one on ebay. Congrats.

                        Thanks, from Jack.

I'll find the date of release and look at the old Belfast Newspapers to see if there is any other info I can add!

That looks like an original ticket to me. The rust is a good sign, modern copies are made of a higher grade of aluminium that will not show rust. And mine also has the two tiny notches on the bottom edge.
