Looks like a typical Brit/Commonwealth officer's rank insignia.

Nice to see made in Melbourne, my home town.

It’s the kings crown so pre 1952

As Chay advises, strictly pre-1952 but King's Crown insignia survived well into the 1960s in Australia at least. The King's crown Victoria Police cap badge wasn't phased out until 1972.

By itself it's a major's rank crown (if that isn't too obvious!).
