WW2 British RAC black beret J.Compton? fake???

    Hi,

Sorry about my poor English written!...and perhaps not in good place for this post?
I'm french collector and need your help about this British black Beret.
I'm loocking for a ww2 RAC / black beret. I can buy this one in a correct price 160€.
I search on net more information about J.Compton marking but there are no more informations.
    http://www.warrelics.eu/forum/cloth-...uction-482975/

The beret construction seams good in fisrt time, but no sure for marking:

    - J.COMPTON & SON WEBB on 2 lignes (see one ligne on net)
    - SON without S for SON"S" et without Ltd at the end.

WD marking with M for 1944 seams good...

What do you think? Is it a fake???I need your precious help!!!

    Thank your very much

Charly, vous devrez poster des photos pour obtenir des réponses utiles. Malheureusement, je n'ai pas cette capacité non plus, mais un autre membre peut peut-être aider.

Charly, you will need to post pictures to get any useful answers. Sadly, I don't have that ability either but perhaps another member can help out.

I've seen markings like that (smeared-thick) but don't remember which maker it was...
Not an expert but I don't see any immediate red flags

Apart from the makers name being J Compton Sons and Webb, not Son.

The cap is probably an early post war example with faked up wartime maker markings and the terrible broad arrow added to multiply its value IMO.

Oui, je vois les photos que vous avez postées. D'autres, avec plus d'expertise, ont commenté ci-dessous. Je ne suis pas un expert, mais je pense que Bond et Jack sont et je suis d'accord avec eux: éviter celui-ci. dommage!

Definitely not a good one. Never seen this type of marking before.
Don't worry, original ww2 tanker berets do show up now and then.
