    Info on Medic bag (?) E+A Dept GHQ MEF 1940 marked

    Hello, found this bag on a flea market and I'm looking for some info on it.

    It is marked M.E.C. 1940 on the inside with broad arrow.
    Written with name and E+A Dept, GHQ MEF.

    GHQ = General Headquarters (?)
    MEF = Middle East Forces (?) sounds strange to me, to find this here...

    Is this medical usage?

    Information would be appreciated! Thank you for looking

    I'm not sure what 'E and A Dept' means, but I don't think it's medical. It wopuld at the least have a red cross and probably 'RAMC' if it were. The only 'Dept' in the Brtish Army is the Chaplain's Dept., so 'E and A' may be a local abbreviation for, perhaps, Evaluation and analysis or soemthing like it.

    I'd say its a modified - corners of flap stitched down - small pack, used by the officer for... whatever. personal kit and or maps, messages, etc. The name is not rare, but with the rank and the two initials you may be able to ace the man and solve the puzzle that way.

      It is a standard 1937 Pattern Webbing, Officers Haversack.

          Did they all have the corners of the top flap stitched down like that, or is it an individual mod?

              Thanks, Marc. I've long ago forgotten anything I may have known about WWII kit!
