Info on bicycle or motorcycle bag 1939 marked

Hello, found this bag on a flea market and I'm looking for some info on it.

It is marked 1939 on the inside with broad arrow, nothing else I can read.
I'm gessing it is for on a bicycle or motorcycle? There is no strap to hold it on you shouders... also the usage of leather makes it more durable?

Information would be appreciated! Thank you for looking

Standard small pack for the British soldier, nothing special and nothing to do with motorcycles our bicycles !
But the the soldiers name is interesting !

Died in 1942 in the UK and buried in his home parish, so probably disease or an accident.

Are the leather reinforcements standard for pattern '38 small packs?

You have a point there. I'll see the soldier on retread with the BEF and get wounded. And died later of his wounds in his home country.
No leather reinforcements for pattern '38 small pack, probably added later on by a civil who used the pack for something else.
It would be nice to know wherethe small pack was found.

Thank you for the replay and information !!! Very interseting.

I found this bag together with this one :
          http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=912343

And a Belgian model 1930 backpack (where I am most happy with).

All were found some weekends ago in Bruges on a flea market, pretty close to centrum Bruges, from someone who lived there. She cleaned out here old stuff. Had no idea on the value or what it was (same here, but I liked the dates).

Now let me dream it has something to do with movie "Dunkirk" or region "zeebrugge". My grandfather told me about the Englisch he met as a child "the bridge over the sea" but there was only water and fire...

No reason to dream about that connection!

This peice IMHO has a direct connection with those events, nothing to do with the movie though . Most likely lost or dropped on the retreat the salvaged/reused by a local as they where apt to do.

On a side note Canadian Army folklore is full of stores of people in Belgium and France found wearing a pair of 'warnorm' or alike drawers. Men and Women alike. Seems many locals pilfiled British stock before the germans got to them.

            Great find.

Please do not try and restore it to orginal condtion. The item's history post war is just as important as pre.
