    Some British Medals...

    Hello,

I was wondering what the British Collecting Community was like on this forum...I have recently acquired a large estate of British Militaria....I take that back, a hoard of British Militaria. The reason I say this is due to the fact that this individual had no rhyme or reason to his collecting, if it was British, he bought it....

Anyway, I was curious to know if it would be worth my time to list items on the E-Stand or just sell it at shows... The collection is primarily medals, tunics and headgear...and about 1000 cap badges... Would this be of any interest to anyone here and if so what?

See Picture below. I plan on keeping a few of the medals, but 97% will go. As you can see, no method to his collecting..

    Thanks,

    Nathan

        David,

They are named to the RA, ASC and RAMC. I wish they were named to the Royal Sussex!

Wow Nathan, that is a great collection. The gallantry medals are really nice, i would check that the medals are not part of any groups.

Thank you all for the kind words!

Kalamees - I have looked over the medals and there are only a few groups. As you can see in the picture, there are several WW1 Trios and Pairs as well as a QSA, KSA and LSGC trio and a QSA, KSA pair. Other than that, everything stands on it own.

Nathan, that is good, it would be sad to split the groups up. My greatest worry is that one day my collection will be split up and the medals that are associated with family groups will be lost. I need to document things, but it is all about having time. It is a lovely collection that you have got

Nigel - Yes, I always keep groups together. I even reunited a Victorian LSGC and IGS at one point.

Robb - Yes, I know quite a bit. I have learned/continue to learn from my father who has collected British medals for decades. He has recently changed collecting fields, but shares his knowledge with me. I'm sure there are some other members here that also have a vast knowledge of British medals...

That's a pretty fantastic hoard! As was stated before, the best way for the most money would be to trickle them out on ebay, as annoying as they are to deal with.

There are a couple there that i wouldn't mind having!

I agree with Gary: you have some orders there which should bring good money and some of the pairs/groups look good too. Ebay, if not a specialist auctioneer, will be a better bet than shows. And, as a formr collectro, I agree that keeping family groups together is much to be desired! Good luck.

                            A remarkable array indeed.

Whilst this is a quiet niche of this forum, there are a fair number of collectors of British items that lurk here.

Could i perhaps trouble you to give an brief overview of the headgear and tunics?

I'm glad to see there is quite a few collectors on this site! I have received a number of requests for overviews of the other items, I will be posting group pictures as time allows.

Also, I have received questions about the medals. I will be keeping the DFC, DSO and CMG, everything else is for sale. Due to the large volume of items, I will be posting items on the E-Stand only if requested, otherwise it would take me weeks. Once I have a them listed, I will post the E-Stand thread in this forum. I will comply with all E-Stand rules.
