    Early Haversack, Military Pattern?

Another tap on the shoulder and i bought this the other morning, just love strange British equipment. Ive spent some time trying to find this pattern but have had no luck, it might well be a private purchase item. Inside has a pocket, perhaps for a mess tin and the outer cover can be used as a pocket with the snaps being used, again im thinking coat, makintosh? There is a circular stamp to the inside and it appears to have a 16 to the centre. There are faint markings stamped along the front and i just cannot make them out, im going to try and mess with the colour filters to help i hope. Anyway IMO interesting and a head scratcher

:Possibly a variant of the officer's haversack - what ther Yanks call a 'musette bag'? One sees references to them often but I can' say I've seen many/any in real life. Just a WAG.

Interesting indeed. Does the date read '1962' or '1902'?

Ive added a picture of the wording on the snap, doesnt have a patent number, dating these snaps would be useful I also add the photo of the small stamp found inside, i belive its a number 16, going thru the smashing site karkee web ive seen these markings on some early webbing
