1940 Blue British Beret, Cornwall for review

I don't know much about these and was hoping for the great expertise of our British forum members. The badge looks like it has been on the beret forever but does seem to have a third hole. Very worn and soiled and difficult to read markings.

Thanks in advance for help, Cliff

                  Hi Cliff

It looks like a Supak to me. Is the date 40 or 49?

                    Hi Cliff & Lee

...From what I know, of course...1949 and not 1940 for sure because Dark BLUE beret is firstly issued for the Royal Navy in 1944 but mostly seen from 1945.
In 1940, only BLACK beret is available for Tank & Armoured regiments.
The RED/MAROON (Airborne) beret as per the GREEN (Royal Marines/Commando's) beret is worn only from mid-end 1942.

                    Hope this helps...

                    Cheers!
                    Thierry

A blue beret was worn by the Civil Defence too.

Thanks guys! I thought possible 1949 too but the 4th digit looks larger then the 2nd which is for sure a 9...
