                          I agree with SMP, you are lucky to get 500 in this condition. I wonder what caused this many stress fractures, it looks as bad as mine that spent 60+ years buried in the ground.

                              The shape of the helmet made it difficult to press. Early British para helmets ( like early American M1s ) were particularly prone to stress cracking. Eventually the Americans discovered a better pressing method and the Brits copied it. Later batches of HSAT helmets didn't suffer so badly.
