Yes I believe it could be. The nails look like hob-nails used on boots and it has been weighted.

It certainly could be, given the hobnails, the added weight and the worming in the wood, but impossible to tell for sure. I have made similar clubs but they are clearly newer. However, I would guess, as it would have been an odd thing to reproduce 40, 50, 70 years ago that unless the worm holes are faked, the age of the wood suggests it is the real thing.

There was no official pattern for such things and a rounders bat would make a good starting place for a local 'conversion'. I have made one up which is just a wooden baton with a large machine gear on the end, so not unlike a medieval mace, based on an example in a museum, but the seconf example Gary posted looks as if it might have been a 'billy club' before the war.
