W. Otway & Co. brass gunscope. Day and Night

Good day folks

This is a W. Otway & Co. brass gunscope #178. It is dated 1903. It looks as though there are inspection marks or something similar below the maker's details but there are no ordnance marks.

Could it have been converted to a day/night site because the night bulb fitting has been attached right over the makers details?

What type of gun would this type of site be used on?

Nice condition exampleive never found exactly what gun these are off but here in the UK thy turn up all the time, i usually have to refuse purchasing them as they are not very collectable, well here anyway. Ive allways been puzzled why there are so many of these floating about, im sure ive seen at least a couple of dozen of them in my time as a collector
