    Welsh Guards 8th Company Colours/flag/pennant

The result of a trade, I have added this superb Welsh Guards 7th Company Colours to my Collection. The 2nd BN was placed in suspended animation shortly after the end of WWII and these must date to prior to that date.

During WWII the 2nd BN WG were mostly part of the Guards Armd division along with the 1st Bn WG.

The Welsh motto translates as "FEAR HIM WHO FEARS NOT DEATH", which is what is on the standard of Ivor Bach from the poem Cardiff Castle, which he carried with him when he besieged the castle against its 2nd Norman lord.

At least three of the other Bn colours are still carried by the Welsh Guards during the Trooping of the Colours ceremony.

Another image showing teo in use and also the illustration from the Welsh Guards at war published in the 1920's showing the WWI 1st Bn company colours. It can be seen that the lusstrated versions are slightly different but I do not know if that is because it is an illustration or new versions were made to replace old versions over time.

              Thanks Irish.

I am glad at least one person here thinks it is wonderful, as do I.

                  Thanks Rob.

I am very pleased to have been able to get it.

It goes nicely with my "Welsh" collection which already included three Welsh flags.

A great find indeed. Very unlikely there will ever be another 2nd Battalion Welsh Guards.

                        Thanks Bob.

We would need some seriously big war before the 2/WG are reactivated.

                          Thanks Martin.

Only this vehicle pennant, post war I think, but very nice IMO. I have badges and such as well but I think you meant this type of artifact.

And along the same sort of line is this camp flag for C company 6/7th RWF (TA) which originally started life pre or during WWII for 6/RWF but has been overpainted post war when the two units were amalgamated.

During WWII both 6/RWF and 7/RWF were in 158th (Royal Welch) infantry brigade as part of 53rd Welsh Div and served with the division in France and elsewhere, though 6/RWF were moved to 160th brigade after heavy losses at Hill 12.
