    cap badge backing help

    Hi
Got this badge with this backing attached. Can anyone tell me the significance of the backing? It looks like it has been with the badge for a long time
    Thanks

Hi Andy, it is called the "Holland patch". Authorised in 1935 it commemorated the Regts service in Antigua in 1715. They served there for 57 years and made their own uniforms from sugar sacks, known as Holland. Possibly these were the first ever Khaki uniforms.

      Nice find!

      Cheers, Ade.

Still worn by the amalgamated Staffordshire Regt, but trimmed to the shape of the cap badge & collar dogs.
Presumably still worn by the amalgamated regiment as a backing to the helmet plate centre?
Despite it's beige colour it's known as "brown holland".
