Time for an update I think! thanks all but before I do, can I ask:
    • Ed Tainton
    • Dan Maltby

To get back to me whether their clasps/bars are IN ADDITION TO the regular medals, eg.

    Dan:
Africa--4-- 3 clasps one of each
Do you mean 4 medals + 3 medals with clasps or 1 regular medal and 3 with clasps?
    • Adam J, I take it yours are inclusive?

Sorry for the trouble, but I'm being anal because I'd hate to start counting all over again at some point in the future!

    Cheers

    BDS

Hi BDS sorry I wasnt that clear, 4 africa stars, three stars have one clasp each and one with no clasp.

Could we not start somthing simular with all our ww2 medals especially Aus, SA and NZ service medals?.
Also why not hav a 'Roll of Honour' where we can put all the names and numbers of all the peoples medals we all have?.

Sounds like a great idea Dan.

I'm not completely Au Fait with the defence medals though, I'm more than happy to maintain a list like I have here unless somebody volunteers? I guess the question to answer is what is the complete list/scope of Defence/war Medals that we should cover?

I think the honor roll is a different kettle of fish though, as there are more medals that have not been, than there has been personalised, this should be a separate thread that is more about the people and the medals they won rather than the other way round. This can be name or service number. If other Allied vets are as easily traceable by service number as Aussie vets are

          via: http://www.awm.gov.au/database/awm192.asp
          or http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/

Then it would make sense for it to be listed/sorted by name.

          What does everyone think?

Back to it...after 11 replies. I put all bars on their own (ie not attached to a medal in the top row...hope its not too confusing!

Adam...how on earth do you have 15 39-45s!?! Do they have different makers?

            X/Y
            X=# medals
            Y=# medals that are named
[Top Row] = Bars with no stars

Forgot to mention that one of my listed 39/45 Stars is engraved same as the Pacific Star (Part of a Group).

I have some further stats from another (ex) forum member to add soon. Will do that this evening.

              Cheers,

As promised, numbers from a friend and ex forum member:

                  Usual style unnamed/named:

                  39-45 - 21/34
                  Atlantic - 1/0
                  Africa - 6/13 - one with "NA"
                  Pacific - 0/14
                  Burma - 5/26
                  Italy - 3/9

All named are to Indian army and almost all are in groups.

                  Cheers,

                  Adam

I think that would be a "North Africa" Ed.
