Hello all, I have had this British Mk II helmet in my collection for many years. I just brought it out of storage and thought I should get some opinions on the unusual numbers painted on the front of the helmet.
It is a standard Mk II with a rough over-paint that has been worn fairly smooth. I cannot see any date stamps on the inside of the shell because of the paint. On the front of the shell are painted four green numbers (stencilled) - 4334 - at a slightly diagonal angle. I have never seen this before and have no idea what these numbers could mean, other than possibly part of the owner's service number.
I would really appreciate any other ideas you might have, or any similar examples in your collections. Note: I picked this up as a shell only. The spare liner and chinstrap have been added by me.
