49th Battalion Australian Prahran Infantry Regiment

Can anyone help with more information on this unit please? I know they were based in Melbourne and were a militia unit. Is it known which Campaigns they served in during WW1? It appears they may have fought at Gallipoli. Also this guy has 3 pips on his shoulder titles. Any ideas what rank this would be? The photo was taken between 1912 and 1918. Thanks in adavance!

He is a Captain and is wearing Mess #1

This unit came out of the 1911 reorganization and was based out of Prahran (Melburn) Victoria.

Not to be confused with the 49th bn of the Imperial Force. So the date is from 1911~1914 though it could be later as home units stayed around for recruiting etc. I think their IF bn was #14/32nd.
