Help with Hong Kong Cabinet photo

Can anyone please help me information and dating this photo?

Is he British? ........as it is my assumption because of the Hong Kong studio.

Can anyone date the photo by his uniform or other points.

Notice in the photo he has a tattoo which makes it more interesting.

looks circa 1900 to me definitely appears to be a British sailor . Rob

This appears to be the 1901 pattern RN uniform. The individual is either a shipwright 5th class or an apprentice shipwright. Shame he isn't wearing his cap, that would pin him down.

No. 6 dress for Sunday in Tropical Harbour. The cap for this would of been the Sennit hat and the White Duck uniform.
