    RCAF 439 Squadron Badge

RCAF 439 Squadron Badge. Made by silversmith firm of Robbe & Berking in Flensburg, Germany between May & August, 1945 while the squadron was based nearby. The squadron was disbanded and shipped out in late August, 1945.

      Well nice item.

Not the official 439 crest (Saber tooth Cat) or motto (Fangs of Death) From what I have on it is

A sweetheart lapel or hat pin with the unofficial crest of 439 Squadron. It depicts a Hurricane with sweptback wings and the inscription Reconnaissez Icarus (Recognize Icarus).

Seems to be a number of these running about. 439 was in Lar for many years.

Yup, it's the unofficial crest from the wartime squadron, you're thinking of the postwar 439 squadron when it was reactivated in 1951.

It's actually a gross interpretation of a Typhoon. The designer at the silversmith missed the mark here.

The identical badge is shown here on the 439 Squadron website. I've sent a message to the site owner for more details about the badge but no response so far.
