RAF Mk VII Goggles serial or batch numbers?

    Hi,

I just bought myself a pretty well worn pair of Mk VII goggles. They have -

    2023

Now I know its Air Ministry and the stores reference number. But I thought the 2023 was a serial number unique to this actual pair of goggles, however a quick web search found at least two other pairs with the same number!

So I'm guessing the 2023 is actually a batch number rather than a serial number. Is this correct?

    Regards

I would be very surprised if goggles had individual serial numbers. The only personal kit items I can think of which would likely have been serially numbered would have been personal weapons - rigles and psitols - and high end watches or perhaps optical devices - binoculars, cameras and so on. So, yes, the number is likely a lot or a model number, probably the former.,

      Thanks Peter.
One of those assumptions without really thinking about it. Guess the same for the number on Mk VIII goggles boxes.

Very likely, Steve. The military is all about numbers!
