Does annyone now for sure the meaning of the color codes on the british 3 inch mortar grenades ? I am thinking of the red green or yellow rings.

There where only 3 types of shells for the 3inch
Smoke, HE and Star
the rings are as follows
HE
Red ring and green ban bomb fully filled
Smoke
Red ring and head green
Powder filled bomb (practice)
Black overall red ring below fuse and below that yellow
Sand filled bomb (practice)
Black overall with Weighted and sand stamped on it
Drill bomb
Black overall with Drill stamped on it
