They were RAF uniforms , but the badges have all been added I would guess for theatrical use . The first looks like a genuine WW2 officers jacket the second is post war . If you look in the inside pocket of the first one you might get lucky and find a label with the original owners details .Rob

Yes, Robb is correct. Two airforce tunics that have had insignia added, probably for theatrical use.

My advice is to remove the sleeve, collar, and shoulder badges, but leave the buttons, to take the jackets back to their original state.

The Compton made tunic with NATO number is of more recent manufacture.

I think you will find that the first jacket with SA label is for the SA Air Force, different shaped Eagle on the buttons.

the collar tabs (red ones),the first ones are for brigadier with buttons for a general, the second one are for a British army general so still worth a bit if you do strip it

The first one shown is a SAAF officers jacket. Notice that it's patterned on an Army officers uniform -- epaulettes and shoulder rank, pointed cuffs w/buttons, etc. SAAF didn't change over to blue uniforms (still retaining Army ranks, as shown) until after the Korean War. Rank on the shoulders is for a second lieutenant. I don't know enough about SAAF regulations to comment on the 8th Army shield. Possibly these were authorized for wear? The collar tabs are incorrect -- there should be SAAF collars.

The second jacket is a 1970s RAF enlisted man's jacket with unknown adornments.

To me the '8th Army' badge looks to have been cut out of an old sheet and glued together, which supports the theatrical use theory, whether the SAAF ever wore them or not.
