WW2 submarine skull brooch?

Good afternoon gentlemen,
I have found this interesting object and I believe it to be a British submariners sweetheart brooch for WW2 period ? I would appreciate any help

I would have thought, given SS insignia, that a skull and crossbones was an unlikely badge for British servicemen to use, even submariners, but that's just a personal observation. The primitive style of the skull looks like a number of WWI insignia used by various groups - German assault troops, some of the eastern Euroepan legions and so on, but again just a comment. What makes you think British, other than where you found it?

Hi Peter, this is the British WW2 submarine HMS Tantalus, flying their Jolly Roger flag, very common to see the skull and cross bones, on British submariners flags.

British Submariners Insignia

The question is, did British Submarine crews have any insignia to denote that?

I am ignorant to their regalia but from what I have seen, they wore nothing but standard navy uniforms with no special insignia during WW 2.

Compared to the US navy which had patrol badges/ breast and cuff insignia.

If I was in the British submarine service, I'd make my own insignia as well. May not be a "sweetheart" badge but an actual submariners own rendition of a sub badge to denote what he did.

Sweet looking item, from the look of the skull and crossbones and the shape of the sub i would lean towards a British example, perhaps made on the boat.
