    Fleamarket Find Webbing Pouch

Good afternoon, could anyone kindly identify this pouch for me please ...

It looks to me to be a '37 pattern pistol ammo pouch going on the brass buckle but the rest of the fittings and edging look very strange. There are no markings at all.

I guess an idea of value too would be good too ... it cost a whole Derbyshire pound so no big deal anyway.

    Many thanks, Ian.

I always try this site for Commonwealth webbing Ian.

Doesn't look like it's from the Commonwealth. Interesting pouch, never seen one like it before.

Yes, it doesn't seem to be on the linked website ..

          Cheers, Ian.

The fabric reminds me of Russian webbing. the odd metal fitting also rings a bell but I can't think from where.

My initial guess was Israeli but could be Danish, Greek, Dutch, etc. Any markings at all? The design makes it compatible with British & US webbing.

Sorry, no markings at all. Found in a VW show flea market in the Yorkshire Dales ...

I vaguely recall seeing something like this years ago here in Canada. The web fabric and buckle look classic British/Commonwealth to me. I wonder if it isn't a psot WWII modification with a 'quick opening' closure. looks like an ammo pouch, so perhaps used with an SMG or some such? The eyelets on the bottom are, just possibly, to take a tie-down thong or string, so that it would depend from a strap end - bellwo the belt - on Pattern 37 webbing and be tied to the leg. Guessing wildly here, if you couldn't tell.

                  Interesting puzzle.

Hiya, the thing that brought me here was the classic '37 pattern buckle. It has the slip-through loops for a belt and the buckle for the suspension strap, I wondered about a post-war Browning mag pouch or similar but the fastener (which would surely be slower than the normal press stud style anway) and the fabric trim made me wonder.

For £1 I thought I'd get it as it's got to be worth a tenner hasn't it ??

                      Ermm, hasn't it ?

Hey, it's cheap entertainment.....you're getting your moneys worth just trying to figure out the mystery! On the other hand it'll probably sit in a box mocking you every time you see it......

I've been working with a huge collection of Iraqi stuff and this really reminds me of some of that stuff. There was an LBE rig that had a mix of original British '37, modified British '37, an odd Russian pouch and a couple of straight Iraqi made pieces that defy description. The soldier must have looked like a Boss wearing it but it looks to be about as functional as a snowman on a battlefield in the desert.

Did they carry spare magazines or just chargers?
